Open Discovery Space

The Subatomic Adventure Continues…

From telescopes to accelerators

Through its participation in the Open Discovery Space (ODS) EU project, Alexandra College is delighted to be able to host a demonstration and live virtual tour of the ATLAS experiment located in the CERN Laboratory in Geneva.

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The ATLAS detector is searching for new discoveries in the head-on collisions of protons of extraordinarily high energy. ATLAS will learn about the basic forces that have shaped our Universe since the beginning of time and that will determine its fate. Among the possible unknowns are the origin of mass, extra dimensions of space, unification of fundamental forces, and evidence for dark matter candidates in the Universe.

This highly interactive live session will take students to the heart of some of the most exciting science developments and experiments in the world. The ODS project is creating a socially-powered and multilingual open learning infrastructure to boost adoption of eLearning resources in schools. Alexandra College is using this platform to enhance access to some of the latest developments in science education.

The event will take place on Friday, 12 April 2013 and the live streaming will be available on Alexandra College’s website: http://alexandracollege.eu/.
